Ingredients

  • 1 medium ripe avocado (about ½ cup pulp)
  • 1 cup yogurt (or greek yogurt), whisked till smooth
  • 2 tablespoons onion
  • 2 tablespoons tomato
  • 2 tablespoons cucumber
  • 1 green chili finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves
  • ½ teaspoon roasted cumin (jeera) powder
  • ½ teaspoon chat masala
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • Using your knife, cut around the seed and twist, which will separate them into two halves. Using a spoon scoop out the flesh.
  • In a mixing bowl, use a fork or a potato masher to mash the avocados to nearly smooth. Then add the whisked yogurt.

  • Add chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, green chilies, lime juice, coriander, spices like roasted jeera powder, chat masala powder, and salt. Mix it very well. Serve it immediately or chilled.

Notes

Variations

  • You can also add finely chopped mint (pudina) or any herbs you prefer.

  • You can skip cucumbers if you don't have them handy.
 

Tips

  • If you make this raita ahead of time, refrigerate only the veggies and yogurt mixture. Add the mashed avocado just before serving; else, it will turn brown.
  • You can add milk to the yogurt to prevent it from turning sour.
