Cabbage Rice or pulao is a simple one pot healthy rice dish made with cabbage ,rice and few spices

Ingredients
  • Measurements Used – 1 cup = 250 ml
  • 1 cup Basmati Rice short grain rice can be used
  • 2.5 cups chopped/shredded Cabbage
  • 1/2 cup fresh/frozen Peas
  • 1 medium sized Onion thinly sized
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Jeera / Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • juice of half lemon
  • 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro/coriander leaves
  • Salt
  • 1.5 cups water
To Grind/Blend
Instructions
INSTANT POT METHOD
  1. Grind/Blend together green chillies,ginger,garlic,cinnamon,cardamom together to a coarse paste.Keep aside.
  2. Press SAUTE mode on Instant Pot. Add oil in to the POT.
  3. Once POT is hot add in the cumin/jeera.Then add blended mixture and Saute for 15 secs.Note: the mixture can stick or burn to the bottom so stir continuously.
  4. Then add in the onions and Saute until onions turn light brown in color.
  5. Now add in the chopped cabbage,green peas,turmeric powder ,mix well and saute for 30 secs.
  6. Add rice,water,salt and garam masala and give a quick stir.
  7. Close the lid on the pot, and turn valve from VENTING to SEALING position.
  8. Press CANCEL button on Instant Pot.
  9. Set the pot to MANUAL/PRESSURE COOK (High Pressure) and set timer to 6 minutes
  10. Do a QUICK RELEASE(QR) OR if you have time wait for NATURAL PRESSURE RELEASE(NPR)(Wait until silver button on lid drops).BE CAREFUL OF THE HOT STEAM.
  11. Once the pressure has released, open the lid.
  12. Add juice of half lemon and garnish with cilantro/coriander leaves and mix well.
  13. Cabbage Rice or Cabbage pulao is ready, serve with yogurt,raita.
INDIAN PRESSURE COOKER METHOD

  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add in the cumin/jeera.Then add blended mixture and Saute for 15 secs.Note: the mixture can stick or burn to the bottom so stir continuously.
  3. Then add in the onions and Saute until onions turn light brown in color.
  4. Now add in the chopped cabbage,green peas,turmeric powder ,mix well and saute for 30 secs.
  5. Add rice,water,salt and garam masala and give a quick stir.
  6. Close the lid and put the whistle weight on. Cook for 2 whistles on medium flame and turn off the gas.
  7. Once the pressure has released, open the lid and gently fluff up the rice
  8. Add juice of half lemon and garnish with cilantro/coriander leaves and mix well.
  9. Cabbage Rice or Cabbage pulao is ready, serve with yogurt,raita.
Recipe Notes

1.You can also add 2 tablespoon of shredded coconut(fresh or frozen) while grinding, gives an extra flavour. But its optional if you dont have it.

2.I have prepared this dish in my electric pressure cooker, Instant Pot DUO60 6 QT
