Learn how to make an easy white sauce (béchamel) in the microwave in just 3 minutes. Perfect for pairing with pasta or spreading on pizza.

I came across this 3 minutes microwave white sauce recipe, i had to try this at home. Its super easy and quick and can be used for making white sauce pasta, spinach corn sandwich filling, broccoli cheddar soup and more.
You can prepare it in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for a day. Since the sauce tends to thicken, add a little milk to adjust the consistency before using.

How to Make White Sauce in Microwave
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 15-30 seconds. I used a 1000-watt microwave.
- Whisk 1 tablespoon all purpose flour (maida) into the butter, and microwave for another 15 seconds.
- Add 1 cup of whole milk and whisk well, there should not be any lumps now.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute, stopping it every 30 seconds for a stir.
- Quickly stir the mixture and microwave again for 1-2 minutes more or till its thickness, stopping it every 30 seconds for a stir.
- Once the white sauce is thickened, add salt and pepper to season, and use it with any pasta dish you like.
Serving Suggestions
You can use it as the base for pasta, pizza, gratin dishes or vegetable lasagna
Notes & Substitutions
- Every microwave setting is different, so keep an eye on checking every 30 seconds.
- Variation: you can also add ½ cup of cheese (any variety) at the same time as adding milk, it becomes cheese sauce.
- You can store this white sauce in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
