Learn how to make an easy white sauce (also known as Bechamel Sauce) in Microwave in 3 minutes. It goes very well with pasta and pizza.

It takes very little time to prepare this tasty sauce. You can even prepare it in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for a day. Since the sauce tends to thicken, add a little milk to adjust the consistency before using.
How to Make White Sauce in Microwave
- Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 15-30 seconds. I used a 1000-watt microwave.
- Whisk the flour into the butter, and microwave for another 15 seconds.
- Add milk and whisk well, there should not be any lumps now.
- Microwave on high for 1 minute, stopping it every 30 seconds for a stir.
- Quickly stir the mixture and microwave again for 1-2 minutes more or till its thickness, stopping it every 30 seconds for a stir.
- Once the white sauce is thickened, add salt and pepper to season, and use it with any pasta dish you like.
Notes & Substitutions
- Every microwave setting is different, so keep an eye on checking every 30 seconds.
- Variation: you can also add ½ cup of any cheese at the same time as adding milk, it becomes cheese sauce.
- You can store this white sauce in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
