These crispy homemade sweet potato fries are slightly sweet, salty, and spicy, made in the air-fryer with a very small amount of oil. This easy sweet potato recipe can be served as a side dish or appetizer with your favorite dipping sauce, like ketchup or mayonnaise.

Growing up, we enjoyed sweet potatoes in the form of boiled sweet potatoes, roasted sweet potato, or sweet potato paratha. Today, I am sharing a healthier way to cook these fries in the air fryer. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Ingredients
- Sweet Potatoes - Choose orange and red-skinned potatoes that are firm without any soft spots. I have peeled the skin in this recipe, but you can keep the skin on as well.
- Extra-virgin olive oil - helps to crisp up the fries in the air fryer.
- Corn Starch - helps to crisp up the sweet potatoes.
- Spices - I have used garlic powder, red chili powder (or paprika), salt, and pepper for seasoning. You may use any of your favorite go-to spices.
How to Make Sweet Potato Fries in an Air Fryer
Wash, peel, and cut 2 medium sweet potatoes into ¼-inch thick fries. You may also use a mandolin, which works best to cut evenly sized fries.
In a large bowl, soak the fries in cold water and let them sit for about 15-30 minutes (removes excess starch in sweet potatoes). Drain the water well and dab the fries dry with a kitchen towel.
Put the fries in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, 1 tablespoon corn starch, ½ teaspoon red chili powder, salt, and pepper. Toss them well, so they are all coated with the seasoning.
Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Add the seasoned fries to the air fryer basket and spread them in a single layer (cook in batches if required). Make sure not to overcrowd them.
Air fry them at 380°F (193°C) for 12-14 minutes or until crispy and golden. Toss the fries halfway through. If your fries are not crisp, air fry them slightly longer. Cook time will depend on the thickness of your fries.
Serve crispy air fryer sweet potato fries hot.

Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the seasoned fries evenly in a single layer. Bake at 425˚F for 35-40 minutes, tossing occasionally or until the fries are crispy and golden.
What to Serve?
- Serve homemade sweet potato fries with your favorite dipping sauce like ketchup, mayonnaise, sriracha mayo dip, or sour cream dip.
- You can also pair it with wraps, a vegetable burger, soup, or avocado cucumber salad to make a meal.
