Barbeque Nation Style Cajun Potatoes Recipe/Crispy Creamy Cajun Spiced Potatoes is one of the most popular food items we love to have whenever we visit the Barbeque Nation Restaurant chain in India. This Restaurant style Cajun potatoes recipe can be easily prepared at home and tastes similar to what we get at Barbeque Nation.

Barbeque Nation Cajun Potatoes

I wanted to try this crispy cajun spiced potatoes dish as my husband, and I loved it when we ate for the first time in Barbeque Nation Restaurant. Finally, I tried looking for the recipe online and decided to recreate it, remembering the taste and texture of the dish.

You can make Cajun Spice Mix at Home itself and store it for six months in an airtight container. But, if you don't have time, Cajun Spice Mix is readily available in the market these days.

When you decide to make these yummy cajun potatoes, just mix 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of tomato ketchup with 2 tablespoons of the cajun spice mix. Mayo Cajun dressing is ready in a jiffy.

Cajun Spice Mix

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder (paprika)
  • salt to taste

I have shared both Airfryer and Shallow fry methods. You can also deep fry the potatoes. Potatoes should be really crispy for this spiced cajun potatoes recipe.

This is very easy to make and a great appetizer for any small get-together or party, and always a hit among my family and friends.

How to Make Cajun Potatoes without Mayonnaise

If you don't have mayonnaise at home, then replace mayo with fresh cream. But I highly recommend using mayonnaise as that is what is used in Barbeque Nation Restaurant.

How to Make Barbeque Nation Style Cajun Potatoes

Making the Cajun Mayonnaise Dressing

Firstly, mix together the mayonnaise, tomato ketchup, and all the spices mentioned in the Cajun Mayonnaise Dressing ingredients section in a bowl. Set aside. You can add 1-2 tablespoons of milk if the dressing is too thick. I usually add milk to get the right consistency.

Preparing the Potatoes

Scrub the baby potatoes to get rid of any dirt. Cook the baby potatoes with skin till just tender (90% cooked). You can either use

Instant Pot - 'MANUAL / PRESSURE COOK' for 4 minutes on HIGH and quick release manually. Here is the detailed recipe for Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes.

Stovetop Pressure Cooker - Cook for 1 whistle.

Microwave - For 5 minutes or till tender.

Stovetop Pot - Boil the potatoes for 10-15 minutes.

Finally, drain the water and let the potatoes cool.

Now place the potatoes on a chopping board, using a heavy spoon, press each baby potato till the skin just splits (do not break).

step to slightly mash collage

Sprinkle some cornflour on the potatoes and mix until the potatoes are lightly coated on both sides.

Shallow Fry Method

In a shallow pan, heat some oil on a medium-high flame, shallow fry the coated baby potatoes till they turn a crispy and golden brown color. You can also deep fry.

Air Fryer Method

I have used Instant Vortex AirFryer for this method. You can use any air fryer which is available.

Now place the coated baby potatoes into a single layer. Brush some oil on top of the potatoes.

step to airfry potato collage

Using the display panel, select AIRFRY, adjust the temperature to 395°F (200°C), set the time to 16 minutes, and then touch START. So preheating starts for 3 minutes. When the display indicates “Add Food” insert the cooking tray in the center position.

When the display indicates “Turn Food” carefully flip the potatoes.

Once potatoes are crispy and golden brown, take them onto the plate.

Lastly, lay the crispy potatoes on a serving plate. Add Cajun Mayonnaise Dressing to each potato along with finely chopped onions & coriander.

What to serve with Barbeque Nation Style Cajun Potatoes?

You or your kid can enjoy these spiced cajun potatoes as an appetizer or also serve them along with this delicious Mayonnaise Sandwich and call it a meal.

Tips & Variations

  1. Instead of baby potatoes, regular potatoes can be quartered and used. I highly recommend using baby potatoes for this recipe.
  2. I highly recommend not removing the skin, skin makes potatoes more crispy.
  3. Don't over-boil the potatoes.
  4. You can also use store-bought cajun spice mix.
  5. Cajun spice mix: This can be made one month ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
  6. Cajun Mayonnaise dressing should be added over the potatoes just before serving, or else it will turn soggy.

      Loved the recipe.
Only thing I will change is instead of just sprinkling the cornflour on top,I would make a slurry and dip the potatoes in it.

Hi Neha Yeah dipping in flour slurry is a also a good idea..for me sprinkling some flour and shallow fry has always worked for making the potatoes crispy. Thanks for sharing the idea.
