What is Samosa?
Samosa is a popular snack or appetizer in India, the Middle East & Asian countries. It is a triangular-shaped flaky pastry, filled with spicy potatoes and peas. These are traditionally deep-fried.
You can find them on any Indian restaurant's menu or in the frozen section of Indian grocery stores.
I used my Instant Vortex Plus 6 Quart Air Fryer for this recipe. I love this because you can get the food in a single layer all at once, and dinner is ready in 30 minutes or less.
Where to buy frozen samosa?
Frozen samosas are readily available in the freezer section of Indian grocery stores, Costco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Safeway, and many more in the USA.
Various fillings are available like potato and peas samosa, vegetable samosa, chickpea samosa, and jalapeno and cheese samosa. They come in different sizes, mostly mini or large samosas.
I recommend Deep, Haldirams, and Sukhis brands of large samosas. They also include Cilantro Chutney for dipping or use homemade.
Air Fryer Frozen Samosa Ingredients
- Frozen samosas - I used Deep brand Punjabi large samosa in this recipe.
- Oil - I prefer to use extra-virgin olive oil.
Do you need to defrost the samosas before air frying them?
You don't need to defrost the frozen samosas. You can place them in the air fryer basket straight from the freezer.
How to Cook Frozen Samosas in Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C). Place the frozen samosa in the air fryer basket, leaving space between them. Spray or brush some oil on top of the samosas.
Air fry them at 380°F (193°C) for 8-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown, and crispy. Carefully flip the samosas using kitchen tongs halfway through.
The cooking time will vary depending on the air fryer, the brand of frozen samosas used, and the size.
Remove the samosa from the air fryer and serve hot with a chutney or dipping sauce of your choice. So delicious!
Serving Suggestions
Serve air-fried samosas with mint coriander chutney and tamarind chutney, along with a hot cup of Masala tea for a perfect evening snack.
You can also use these samosas to make Samosa Chaat.
Storage Suggestions
Store: Air-fried frozen samosas best served piping hot. Leftover samosas can be put in an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 - 3 days.
Reheat: Place the leftover samosa into the air fryer basket. Air fry at 380°F for about 3-4 minutes or until warmed through. Reheating might get some of the crispness.
