Why You Will Love Air Fryer Brussels
- Easy, and Healthy
- This recipe is super easy and quick to make.
- You can experiment with any seasonings you like.
- It serves as a perfect side dish to enhance any boring meal.
Ingredients
You will only need a few basic ingredients to make this recipe.
- Fresh Brussels Sprouts – Choose Brussels sprouts that are bright green and fairly firm. You may also use frozen. However, the texture after roasting won't be nearly the same as the fresh one.
- Extra-virgin olive oil – is ideal for roasting, adds richness, and helps to crisp up the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer. You may also use avocado or grapeseed oil.
- Balsamic Vinegar - adds a delicate balance of sweet and sour taste to the dish.
- Spices – added garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground pepper. You may also use freshly minced garlic for this recipe if you don't have garlic powder in hand.
How to Make Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer?
Rinse Brussels sprouts with water and pat dry with a kitchen towel.
Using a sharp knife, trim off the bottom of the hard stem of each Brussels sprouts and cut each Brussels sprout in half lengthwise, from tip to trimmed end.
Place Brussel sprouts in a medium bowl. Add olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss them well until evenly coated with the seasoning. Using your hands works best for this.
Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C). Add the seasoned Brussel sprouts to the air fryer basket and spread them in a single layer (cook in batches if required).
Air fryer them at 360°F (180°C) for 10-12 minutes or until slightly browned and crisp. Shake the basket halfway through. Mine was cooked perfectly in 11 minutes.
Drizzle some freshly squeezed lemon juice on the roasted Brussel sprouts for zesty citrus flavor, and serve immediately. It tastes best when it's hot.
How to Roast Brussel Sprouts in the Oven
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spread the seasoned Brussel sprouts evenly in a single layer.
Cook for about 20-25 minutes or until slightly brown and crisp. You may have to turn them once halfway through. Cooking time may vary based on your oven and the size of the sprouts.
Serving Suggestion
Serve your roasted Brussels sprouts alongside a plate of Fettuccini Alfredo for a complete meal. I also like to enjoy it as a side dish with Indian meals such as red lentils dal, and jeera rice.
Storage Suggestions for Air-fried Brussels Sprouts
You can store the air-fried Brussels sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
I do not recommend freezing the cooked sprouts.
You can warm the leftovers in the microwave or air fry them at 380°F for 2-3 minutes.
Pro-Tips & Notes
- Choose Brussels sprouts of the same size: This helps for quick and even cooking.
- Work in batches: Make sure to spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between each other. Cook in batches if needed.
- Shake the basket halfway: It's important to shake the basket halfway through to allow the broccoli florets to be cooked evenly.
- Serve them right away: These crispy roasted Brussels sprouts get soggy as they sit and cool.
- The exact cooking time will vary based on the air fryer being used.
Seasoning Variations
- Lemon wedges and/or zest: Add a fresh squeeze of lemon juice right before serving.
- Cheese: Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese after roasting.
- Herbs: Add a handful of fresh, finely chopped dill, parsley, or cilantro.
- Seasonings: You can sprinkle some Italian seasoning and red chili flakes before roasting.
Frequently Asked Questions
YES, you can air fry frozen Brussels sprouts. However, it's hard to cut the frozen Brussels sprouts in half, so I recommend using whole sprouts. Also, space out the seasoned sprouts in the air fryer basket to allow excess moisture to evaporate, and add an extra 2 to 4 minutes to the cooking time.
Cutting medium to large Brussels sprouts into half helps them cook evenly and allows them to caramelize and become crispy when roasted. However,
If your Brussels sprouts are small, you can air-fry them as is without cutting them in half.
The Brussels sprouts won't get crispy if you overcrowd the air fryer basket, which will cause them to steam simmer rather than roast.
