Chapati Noodles, or Roti Noodles, is a unique recipe where thin strips of chapati are stir-fried with crunchy vegetables, flavored with tomato ketchup, soy sauce, and garlic. This dish is both delicious and healthy, making it a fun way to serve chapati and veggies to kids.

Got leftover chapatis or roti from last night? Don't waste them! This recipe gives a fun twist by incorporating leftover chapatis into Indo-Chinese cuisine, transforming them into delicious chapati noodles. Other noodle recipes from my blog include vegetable hakka noodles, vegetable maggi noodles, garlic noodles, and Thai peanut noodles.
This is a great kid's lunch box option and is a good alternative to include vegetables and regular boring chapatis in their diet. This not only makes a perfect lunch but is also a good option for an evening snack or dinner.
Usually, chapati noodles are made with leftover chapati, but when making it for kids, prepare the chapati in the early morning and then cut them into strips. But make sure chapatis are completely cooled down, or else they will turn soggy.

How to Make Chapati Noodles
Stack 2 chapatis, one on top of the other, and roll them tightly. You can use whole wheat, multigrain chapatis, or even tortillas for this.
Cut the rolled chapatis into thin strips to form noodles. Gently separate the chapati strips and set them aside.
Meanwhile, cut the vegetables for noodles into thin strips.
In a large kadai or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add 2 garlic (minced), 2 green chili (halved), ¼ cup sliced onion, and 2 tablespoons white spring onion. Sauté for a minute until the onion softens.
Then add ¼ cup carrot (cut into thin strips), ¼ cup cabbage (shredded), ¼ cup red bell pepper (cut into thin strips), and saute over medium-high heat until tender. Sprinkle 1 pinch of sugar (optional) and salt at this stage to keep the veggies colorful and crisp.
Add 1 tablespoon tomato sauce, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon vinegar, black pepper, and salt. Mix well.
Next, add the prepared chapati strips and mix gently to coat the sauce all over.
Lastly, add in the 2 tablespoons green spring onions and switch them off. Serve chapati or roti noodles recipe hot.
Tips to Make Chapati Noodles Recipe
- Sugar is added to retain the color of the veggies while cooking. But you can skip it.
- Avoid cutting the chapati strips too small, as they can become mushy while cooking. Keep them longer to maintain the noodle-like appearance.
- Leftover chapatis work great for this recipe. You can make this with fresh chapatis as well, but make sure they are completely cooled. You may use wheat, multi-grain chapati, tortillas, or frozen parathas. You can also use spinach chapati, beetroot chapati, or avocado chapati, making the dish healthier.
Variations
- I have used Ching's chilli soy sauce, which is a little spicy, but you can use any kind of soy sauce. I just avoid dark soya sauce since it adds dark color to the dish. Light soy sauce also works well.
- I have used tomato ketchup for these roti noodles, but you can also use red chili sauce to make the dish spicy.
- If you dont have spring onions, you can also garnish them with coriander leaves.
- If you dont want to make it the Indo-Chinese way, you can also add pav bhaji masala with some ketchup, which makes a great variation.
- You can also add veggies like green bell pepper, cauliflower, mushroom, and paneer for extra protein.
