This fruit sandwich is a super healthy and delicious recipe, made with bread, seasonal fresh fruits, and fruit jam made in less than 10 minutes. It is a great breakfast or after-school snack idea for your kids.
I had never heard of Fruit Sandwich until I discovered it in my office cafeteria when I used to work at Cognizant India. They usually served a grilled fruit sandwich, my go-to breakfast, or evening snack in the office. It's filling and healthy.
I recently started making this for my daughter's evening snack, and she loves it. This is a no-fire cooking recipe, so your kid can construct this sandwich themselves.
Ingredients
- Bread slices: Use brown or multigrain bread for a healthier choice.
- Fruit jam: use homemade or store-bought jam. I also use like to use my homemade strawberry chia jam or pineapple jam.
- Fruits: I have used bananas, strawberries, and apples. You can also use fruits like kiwi, and papaya.
How to Make Fruit Sandwich
Cut the seasonal fruit into thin slices and keep them aside.
Take two bread slices and apply fruit jam to the bread.
Firstly place the banana slices in a single layer, followed by strawberries and apples.
Top it with another bread slice, cut it into two pieces and serve this immediately.
Tips & Variations
- Use brown or multigrain bread for healthier choices.
- You can replace fruit jam with cream cheese or mayonnaise.
- You can also grill or toast sandwiches. I love even the grilled version.
- You can use any seasonal fruits like mango, papaya, kiwi, chickoo for this recipe. Try to avoid watery fruits like watermelon, and oranges which can make the bread soggy.
