This Creamy Cucumber Salad is also known as German cucumber salad, made with sour cream, vinegar, and fresh dill. This Classic Summer Cucumber Salad is the perfect side dish for potlucks, barbecues, or picnics and can be assembled in a few minutes.
We make this salad almost weekly at home, and sometimes I replace sour cream with plain greek yogurt, making it a low-calorie salad, and it's great for weight loss.

Ingredients
Here is a list of ingredients to make a creamy cucumber onion salad recipe.
- Cucumber: English cucumber is perfect for this salad. However, you can also use any cucumbers with fewer seeds that are less watery. You can also remove the skin if they are hard. Persian Cucumbers also work great.
- Onion: red onion works best in salads, so that’s what I used.
- Herbs: I have used fresh dill, but feel free to use any herbs you have in hand. You may also use 1 teaspoon of dried dill instead.
- Sour Cream: Use full-fat sour cream, you can also use plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream.
- Garlic: Freshly minced garlic is used, or use ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder.
- Lime juice: I used the juice of half a lime. Feel free to increase or decrease according to your preference. Or use classic white vinegar.
- Seasoning: salt, black pepper.

FAQs
Yes! Cucumbers tend to release liquid as they sit. So if the salad is left for long, then the water dilutes the flavor. Hence I would keep the chopped cucumber and onion without salt in the refrigerator and just stir the sour cream dressing before serving. However, the leftovers can be stored for a day or two in the fridge.
