Roasted Chana Salad is a protein-packed, healthy, and flavorful Indian salad recipe made with roasted chana, fresh veggies, spices, and herbs. It comes together in under 10 minutes!

I am constantly looking for high-protein salads to prepare at home. I regularly make chickpea cucumber salad, boiled peanut salad, and kala chana salad. Today, I am sharing a quick and easy 10-minute roasted chana salad.
Roasted chana is also known as bhuna chana or sattu (when ground). It is a popular snack in India, often enjoyed on its own or added to various dishes for a crunchy texture. I often use sattu to make sattu sharbat, and sattu paratha.
If you want to make Indian chaat style, add chutneys like coriander mint chutney and tamarind date chutney.
Ingredients
- Roasted Chana: Also known as bhuna chana. You can easily get it in Indian grocery stores.
- Roasted Peanuts: I roast the peanuts in the air fryer. But you can also use store-bought roasted peanuts. Peanuts add a great flavor to the salad, don't skip it.
- Onions & Tomatoes: Use red onions for their sweetness and crunch. Use firm, de-seeded, and diced Roma tomatoes.
- Cucumber: Persian or English cucumbers work best for salad. But, you can use any cucumber you like.
- Seasoning: I used roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, regular salt, and black pepper powder.
- Pomegranate seeds: They give a nice taste and are healthy.
How to Make Roasted Chana Salad
In a large mixing bowl, add roasted chana, roasted peanuts, onion, tomatoes, cucumber, green chili, spices such as roasted cumin powder, chaat masala, salt, salt (or black salt), lime juice, coriander leaves, and pomegranate seeds.
Toss gently to combine. Garnish with more coriander leaves and pomegranate seeds, and serve immediately.
Serving Suggestions
Serve this salad as a side dish with your Indian meals, or enjoy it as a chaat-style evening snack or appetizer, paired perfectly with a hot cup of adrak ka chai (ginger tea).
Variations
- Veggies: You can also add diced avocados, bell peppers, raw mango, boiled sweet potatoes, boiled potatoes, and more.
- Beans: You can add beans like boiled white chickpeas, black chickpeas, green chickpeas, or kidney beans (rajma) for extra protein.
