Vegetable Chilli Cheese Toast is a delicious snack dish made with a mixture of chilies, cheese, and veggies, spread over bread, and cooked until the cheese melts and the bread turns crispy. You can prepare it on a stovetop using a tawa, or bake it in the oven or air fryer for a quick and delicious treat.
This dish can be prepared in less than 15 minutes and served as breakfast, evening snacks, or even starters. This toast is a great option for kids school lunch box or snacks.
The cheesy taste will attract kids and make them eat veggies along with cheese with great pleasure. I have used garlic in this chilli cheese toast recipe, but it's completely optional.

Chilli Cheese Toast Ingredients
- Bread: You can use any type of bread for this recipe, such as white milk bread, brown bread, whole wheat bread, or sourdough bread.
- Cheese: I like to use shredded Mozzarella cheese. You can use any cheese you like, Amul Processed cheese, Pepper Jack, or Cheddar cheese. All of these taste delicious. Vegans can use vegan cheese.
- Veggies: I have used bell peppers, tomatoes, green chilies, and herbs such as coriander leaves. You can also substitute Indian green chilies with Jalapeno.
- Garlic: Adding garlic is optional. However, freshly minced garlic gives the best flavor.
- Seasoning: I used oregano, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. You may also add red chili flakes for extra heat.
- Butter:Â Use soft, unsalted butter for toasting the bread. Vegans can use olive oil or any vegan butter.
How to Make Veg Chilli Cheese Toast on Tawa
Prep Veggies: Finely chop/dice the vegetables and herbs.
Prepare cheese mixture: Combine the cheese, vegetables, and spices in a mixing bowl. Keep aside.
Toast Bread: Toast the bread with butter on one side only.
Top bread slices: Spread chili cheese mixture on the toasted bread side.
Toast on Stovetop Tawa: Heat the iron Tawa on medium-low heat. Spread some butter and place the bread slice. Cover the glass lid and cook on the low flame until the bread is toasted well and the cheese has melted (It takes 4-5 minutes).
Cut it into your desired shape.
Serve vegetable cheese toast hot with masala chai or milkshake.
Chili Cheese Toast on Oven
If you are making this delicious Chilli toast in Oven, then Preheat the oven to about 360°F (180°C) for 5 minutes. Place all the bread in a baking tray and bake for about 5 minutes at 360°F (180°C).
Keep an eye on the toast while it is cooking. When the cheese melts and starts to brown slightly on top, turn off the oven, take the vegetable chili cheese toast, and place it on a serving plate.
Chili Cheese Toast in an Air Fryer
Preheat the air fryer to 330°F (165°C). Place the bread slice in the air fryer basket and cook at 330°F for 5-6 minutes, until the cheese melts and slightly browns on top. Repeat with other slices.
How to Serve Chili Cheese Toast
- As a snack – With masala chai or mango milkshake.
- With your favorite Soup or Salad – It makes a perfect meal when you pair it with your favorite soup or salad.

I addition to minced onion, sweetcorn and black olives, I added some softened butter and finely chopped coriander. I omitted the milk as I felt it would thin the mixture. I didn't have mozzarella but grated processed cheese was fine. The butter adds a silky lusciousness to it, especially if the cheese is on the dry side. Everyone loved it! Comfort food, especially on a cold day.
