Drumstick or Moringa leaves Raita is an easy and healthy raita recipe made with yogurt (curd), sautéed moringa leaves, and some spices. Can be served with Vegetable Pulao, Veg Biryani or eaten as it is. This Moringa Yogurt dip is Low Carb and Kids friendly.

Drumstick leaves or moringa greens (‘Nugeekayi soppu’ in Kannada) are a significant source of beta-carotene, Vitamin C, protein, iron, and Potassium.

I live in the USA and sometimes I get lucky to see these Moringa leaves in the Indian Grocery stores. So I usually make recipes like drumstick leaves paratha, moringa rice, panniyaram (paddu), uttapams, akki rotti (thalipet), and off-course sambar.

How to make Drumstick Leaves Raita

Heat 1 teaspoon of oil in a Kadai. Add cumin (jeera) seeds. Let them splutter.

Then add green chilies, tender drumstick leaves, and salt. Saute for a few seconds till drumstick leaves shrink. Cool the mixture before adding to the yogurt.

prepare the tempering and saute drumstick leaves

Whisk the yogurt or curd in a large mixing bowl.

Add sautéed drumstick leaves mixture, black salt, and black pepper powder, mix well.

Taste at this stage to make sure the amount of salt and spices is enough.

add the sauteed moringa leaves to the whisked yogurt

Moringa/Drumstick leaves Raita is ready, Serve chilled.

Tips & Variations

  1. Adding milk to the yogurt helps it from turning sour. If you are using fresh yogurt then skip it.
  2. You have to saute moringa leaves, raw moringa doesn't taste great with this raita.
  3. You can also make tempering of mustard seeds, cumin, green chilies, curry leaves and then saute moringa leaves and add to yogurt for a variation.
  4. To make it Keto friendly use Greek Yogurt.
